You Probably don’t need a full content management system.
Just six months ago I didn’t believe that myself and it caused me to make the mistake of moving this site back to WordPress. It’s true though.
The thing is most sites aren’t really managing content at all, at least not at a scale that requires the complexity and issues that come with something like WordPress. What they need instead is a good workflow to enable the user to say what they want to say.
Today I’ve found that workflow using Hugo. I can write, edit and work with the 700+ posts and pages on this site easily and still publish something fast on hosting that costs me nothing other than the domain renewal.
Of course, some sites really do need more, but that’s the exception rather than the rule.
If you enjoy blogging and really want to focus on the writing, spend some time with a site software that focuses on letting you write without friction. If you focus on the workflow of writing you really don’t need a content management system at all.
