I’ve spent a long time looking for a project I could both sync my teeth into and enjoy. Really I feel like it goes back to when I sold Better WP Security in 2013.
I enjoy working on this site.
I could sink my teeth into a project like Kana.
The catch is, since leaving WordPress behind I really haven’t been able to do both.
This past week I’ve permanently archived Kana on GitHub. I’m not sure that’s the end of the name, but the project itself just isn’t something I care about anymore. In fact, I think I’m done with WordPress side projects in general, other than making content for this site. For the one plugin I touch periodically, the one I maintain for this site, wp-env is plenty. I just don’t see a reason to go beyond that anymore.
Instead of WordPress I’m going to work on scratching a few other itches I’ve had, starting with learning a completely new type of development: Mac and iOS/iPadOS development, all with Swift.
I’m not far into this new journey yet, but it’s been fun. I even have ideas for a few apps I would love to build and, more importantly, maintain.
