Today marks the end of my 2nd week at Fingerprint and I feel like things are really starting to fall into place.
The team is small, but capable. The oldest tenure only goes back to this past spring so there’s some work for me to do on cohesiveness, familiarity with the tech stack and agile health but all of it seems very doable so far. I think this where I’ll be spending the bulk of my time over the next 2.5 months or so.
The tech itself has a lot of possibilities and a few competing visions on where it should go all tied together with years of tech debt and other issues common to a startup that is just starting to scale. Right now I’m trying to filter out the noise from our backlog so we can start prioritizing that going forward.
My peers and other coworkers have been great. I’ve taken a lot of time these past two weeks to meet with as many folks as I could and it’s already starting to pay off. My question to all is what pain points they’ve had with my team historically. There have been some very enlightening answers. While it isn’t all new information, each conversation has served to strengthen signals I was already given as well as to form the beginning of a working relationship that will help us better solve these issues for everyone going forward.
So, in short, things are starting to get past the initial onboarding phase already and we’re starting to move forward on a number of fronts. I think this is a major win given some of the historical context I’ve been given about this team’s situation. I’m looking forward to seeing where we can go with all of it in the coming weeks and beyond!
