Today I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new role. I’m going back to my roots as an Engineering Manager for the Platform team at Fingerprint and I couldn’t be more excited.
It wasn’t much more than a year ago that I decided to take an on-site job in Chicago. The idea was that, being new to the city, I would actually be able to meet some local folks. After Sarasota, where our isolation was a huge issue for me, I wanted to make sure we didn’t make the same mistake here.
It was the right choice but I didn’t intend for the on-site work to be permanent and I really missed working in the open-source world.
So today I’ve joined a company that is both remote and focused on its open-source roots and I couldn’t be happier. In addition, I get to work for someone I’ve looked up to since my university days, Dav Glass, who will be my direct manager in my new role.
A few folks have already asked me why I would take an Engineering Manager role after being a VP, but that really isn’t a big deal to me. In fact my new boss made a similar move himself so I feel like I’m in good company here on that front. The other thing is that I liked my EM roles in the past. I like working closer to the tech and the team and now I’ll be able to do it under a group of folks who really know their stuff.
So, here goes. Fingerprint should be the right adventure to carry me through the foreseeable future and I’m really excited for it.
