We had a wonderful weekend.
I was able to fully disengage from work and spend time with family and it was just what I needed.
On Saturday morning we drove up to my Dad’s house. He’s been wanting to see the Yerkes Observatory since I was at his house following my mom’s passing 2 years ago. As his birthday is next week we took him there for a tour and then out to lunch at a neat little spot we found at one of the harbors on Lake Geneva.
I have to say, I was impressed with the tour myself. The telescopes were awesome but my favorite part was a book in the research library that still had Carl Sagan’s signature on the check-out card from when he checked it out as a student there in 1952.
The observatory itself is a fascinating place. The university stopped using it as a research facility in 2018 and donated it to a foundation that maintains it today. They left everything behind, from the research library to the telescopes and more. It really was like a time capsule to another age and I loved every moment of the tour myself.
After Lake Geneva we spent the night at my Dad’s house and drove out to Joy’s parents’ house yesterday for Mother’s Day. It was a nice quiet afternoon with absolutely perfect weather.
If there is one benefit about being fully on-site for work today it is that I can disconnect when we get a full weekend off. We don’t get enough PTO to be useable so it’s all I’ve got these days and, while I work many weekends, I’ll take it.
