So What Do I Move To?

In the “old days” accessing my data seemed so easy. I saved it to hard drive and backed it up on a floppy disk which I could use to access it from anywhere.

In 2025 none of it seems as easy as it used to.

For us, iCloud currently rules the world. It works, but I don’t trust it. For alternatives I’ve used a number of products but they all come with serious tradeoffs, particularly if I need to share my data with anyone. We’ve used Nextcloud, Synology, Dropbox, Google Drive and so many others, none of which worked great (Google Drive was close, but I trust it even less than iCloud).

Now I find myself wanting to use my Linux machine more again which means iCloud just doesn’t cut it.

So what do I move to?
