It's OK to Tune Out

As I write this on Tuesday night, 5 November, I do so without the news on. Without the scrolling of web pages or drone of TV reporters. I do so with a sense of focus, not on the world outside my home but on my words on this screen.

It isn’t that I don’t care. In fact I care very much about the future for myself and all around me.

It’s that I’ve done what I can do to help bring about the change that I want to see in the world and no amount of news will change that tonight.

It’s OK to tune out. You don’t have to follow every minute of every store, whether it affects you or not. Do what you can do and know that what you did was the right thing. That’s what matters.

For me this was a lesson I made use of last night, and indeed over the last few weeks, and it’s a lesson I’ll use many, many times going forward.

I’m simply done worrying about what I cannot control and, yes, it is OK to tune out.
